i am interested in working with the context of a predefined authority as a tactic for challenging the prevailing passive experience of the city. my work explores how conventional meanings and official uses can be altered for personal expression.
i am interested in furthering an expanded interpretation of détournement and defamiliarization through performance (however small-scale this might be). my work intends to validate individuals personal and subjective experiences of the city (both my own and those of others). in turn, my work responds to the tension between
-anonymity and community
-formal and informal claims
-individual and commercial authorship
i am interested in the conflicting temporal and spatial claims that build upon the city as a social and relational form. i would like to test two tactical extremes – blended-in, highly informal vs. overt, more formalized actions. this approach will allow me to critique the outcomes of my work and it’s situated context more scientifically than in the past.
