we aim to generate a community that has a vested interest in the space.
we will do this by:
-creating a virtual forum through a blog system that generates interest and interaction.
-breaking down the existing physical barriers and making the space more accessible and inhabitable.
an important aspect of our overall design and intentions for knox place is the re-design of the end of the laneway and the door way connecting the interior and exterior laneways. in doing this the laneway will be accessible to the heavy traffic flow shown in the video below.
recreating new entryways opens up knox place for opportunistic occupation and engagement.
the other element of our proposal is a virtual connection with the public and the space by the implementation of interactive advertising (post-ups, stickers, ect) in which we are asking the public to engage with. by directing them to a blog which we update frequently a forum for ideas and suggestions for events/actions is facilitated. we encourage the public to claim the space either through informal actions or staged installation and events eg. - night sports
– interactive hands on slide projection
– free fresh water
– music share (album of the week)
– sausage sizzles
– ‘how to’ events
we are hoping to create a gift economy that becomes self generative through the simple action of interaction. ‘if we build it, they will come’.
over the next week we will staging a number of tests/events that will be documented of the blog which will inturn generate interest and encourage and invite others to make similar claims on the space.

it is now the time to design the physical implementations of your ideas. start designing and testing your ideas, like the stage, the different surfaces, the benches, the lights, the hanging garden, the pin up boards ect. Ask yourselves about their dimensions (how much space needs a table tennis? where could it be and how many of them? where would they be stored away or folded up to?), locations, maybe even materials and draw it up in plan and section (you will need to produce larger drawings, eg: draw and print the whole area of knox place and inside in scale 1:100). Test for yourself and show us where the stage would go, how big and how high would it be? how many steps? what material? how would it retract? i hope that helps….keep going, no better, get started running!
