What happens if you make physical contact with a stranger? I started the experiment. The location? An escalator! The people? – Any!
I joined different people standing on the escalator and…leant against them, rest my hand or my elbow on their shoulder or hold their hand. I wanted to know if I could invert the typical way „eye-contact- talking- careness“ into „careness – eye-contact – talking“. How do people react to this new way of making contact?
The people were very surprised but not angry as I expected. They mostly said nothing, they turned around and had a look but they didn´t try to escape. Nobody asked me why I did that or tried to talk to me.
