Informal Market trade and Reflection, Christopher Dalamagas

Monday, September 13th, 2010

I’m interested in how people create individual space within a public space, this is not necessarily an actual space but it could be just some sort of personalization in a public area. For example, i mean its a very predictable example but graffiti, as well as things like skaters, or bikers, things like storage and activities, or the ways in which people create their own individual, personalized routes through the city via personal transport. This doesn’t not include cars. Ways that people my travel throughout a city, with no link between each other. For example, the skaters that are in front of the state library, Informal urban practice, but what about the skaters in Bowen lane, they have no link, or no means of communicating. Or bicycle commuters that always ride the same route as so many others during the year but not link. The ways in which people create a link or personalization between a route, space, or area, is always individual, lets make it social as well.

Inappropriate Soundscaping – T.H.

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

INAPPROPRIATE SOUNDSCAPING

To readjust the experience of the gallery with an interest in inappropriate situations. The idea is to create a different experience compared to a regular gallery space, as the project will be set up in a public environment using found items. We will be taking advantage of this element to create bizarre differences in the gallery experience via soundscaping. I will be focusing on designing a system and physical objects to accommodate the acoustics and will also be collaborating with the projection component.

mid-semester feedback

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

thanks to all for your presentations, many thanks to the panelists for their comments and congratulations to all for the patience during the excessive afternoon. please have a look at the scanned feedback sheets. the feedback is as taken by the panelists at the time of the presentation, with no further summary or assessment. the document has 90 pages and is in order of the presentation. please check the blog tomorrow (wednesday) for further instructions on how to proceed and what to prepare and discuss for next weeks class.

please be also aware that not all notes on the feedback sheets are located according to the categories on the template, nor is everything a comment, often parts are just notes for the panelists about your project. the feedback sheets are a guideline only, most crucial are the conversations we had today.

note: can everyone please make sure you have ticked the ‘mid-semester’ category for your uploaded documents, as well as that all of you provided key words for your projects, thanks.

Open publication – Free publishingMore habitat

The idea is to create a different habitat in a public space, where people can interact , with an art gallery where they appreciate art, to change their daily perspective at least for a moment. Giving a second use to disposed materials, recycling and combining, creating structures that hide images and sounds, light and art to play with peoples minds.
My desire with H.T is to create an informal precinct for people to amuse their senses. Departing from the idea that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour. Aiming this with different textures, structures, forms, lights, and art. In addition with my team mates we will occupy an space giving it twist.

Trading/Reflection/Projection – T.H.

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Over the last 6 weeks I have studied a variety of informal urban practices which have led me to speculate about the reasons for such informal practices and the larger social issues associated with them. Projects involved, quick appropriation to change perspective, observation of the obvious, positive affirmation, and making the mundane into masterpieces – empowerment of objects.
Society is full of stereotypes and social problems which are often ignored or considered inappropriate to discuss, however solutions might be found through communication and exposure.  In relation to the Habitallery I’d like to focus on  using the overall ‘structure’ to amplify social issues, educate and communicate with people.  I would be investigating content of information projected, method of communication and public reactions.

MARKET TRADING.
I found the market a great opportunity for communication with classmates about projected ideas and common interests.

The idea is to set up an art gallery where found materials come into a different context by using them to bulid a new structure. This action might be combined with an event where random people can get in touch with each other and either share their opinion on art or even just creating a space to think and make people become more aware of the potential of urban space as well as the waste of daily items in our consumer society. How many goods do we really need and when does luxury become redundant? The solution might be an interactice piece of art for people to share.
