The Habitallery team project was to communicate with the public by promoting subtle shifts within the everyday life of the city, awareness of the The Habitallery persona and of one’s own habits within their urban surroundings.

This was achieved by extracting mundane aspects and input of the urban fabric and its inhabitants and then re-issuing these ideas back into the public realm to promote self awareness and a sense of intrigue in relation to their environment. In this particular urban context of Melbourne, already heavily saturated with ‘interesting things to look at and do’ from both formal and informal channels, we intended to complement existing informal urban practices (I.U.P) with a fresh take through unexplored avenues and experiments we felt were interesting, effective or evocative. We endeavored to let The Habitallery project unfold naturally and become self defining.

Swapping IUP final PRESENTATION

In Melbourne, informal barter run online popularly in local and overseas. They reclaimed and deal with ‘unwanted things’ by swapping into ‘want things’. Their strategies, terms and instructions are varying. This informal swapping activity challenges current money economic system. It is out of the boundaries of existing tax and value ratio. Currently, tax and money are the major indicators in values of a product, service or information. The values of visible objects are fluctuated by the time and needs. However, we cannot evaluate immateriality items by money or tax. In this project, we are challenging the current materiality value, but also the immateriality value.

Aristotle said: “People came to the city in order to survive, to live better and stay in the city”

In 2010, there are more than half the human live in urban. By 2030, the world’s urban population is likely to exceed 60%.With the developing of the city; people’s living style tends to a fast-paced. The urban and life become much more heaviness than ever before. Online social network, highly efficiency are emphasised which led less directed conversations and interactions. As a result, physical and mental problems become worse, such as stress, obesity, cancer, etc. The city needs to ‘slow down’. The purpose of this project established a “slow” opportunities for citizens to relax in a fast-paced city.

Colour Space Behaviour Presentation

Monday, October 25th, 2010

An overview of the Colour Space Behaviour project:

As individuals we came together with our own separate frameworks about how the project might work, by the end these frameworks became interrelated to the project itself.

The presentation format plays with the balance between formal and informal, the computer generated and the handmade and it plays with both two and three dimensions. The virtual aspect of the presentation projected above the posters that line up below the looped videos (also posted) accordingly. Below the printed panels (which sum up what we considered are four important ‘areas’ of the project) are the artefacts of the interventions the project undertook.

We are presenting Colour Space Behaviour in a way that relates to how we did it. So presentation took on a casual, fun collage aesthetic – which references the overall aesthetic and mindset behind the project.
