interior design tech/design

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

in all second/third year design studios we do expect YOU to explore the relationship between design and technology, it is not a given relationship!  in regards to the relationship of the digital fabrication workshop you have been undertaking last weekend (and which continues friday) it can mean two different approaches: 1_either you consider digital fabrication technology as the way to develop your design proposal, in that case it becomes a driving force and the question is what you will be developing / proposing as a design project. 2_or you develop your design approach first of all conceptionally and than consider what might be the right / best technology to work with in order to develop or implement your design (in that case you might or might not be using digital fabrication technologies).

NEVERTHELESS i expect that you use and demonstrate your newly learned skills for YOUR mid-semester presentations in one way or the other: either for the free market trading (informal) on tuesday in week 6, or the more formal outline (outlining what will be your project) (formal) in week 7!!!!

Digital Fabrication Technologies

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

the workshop starts tomorrow, friday 13. the workshop is led by jessica inn, and will start in the computerlab on level 7, 8.7.153 lab, at 2.30-5.30; and will continue on saturday in the lab 8-11-42, from 10am-5pm. PLEASE attend in any case, even if you haven’t had a chance  to complete the introduction workshop with andrew thompson, for the workshop on level 11 (re use of laser cutter and paper cutter). in that case you will need to complete andrew thompson’s introduction next week, in order to be able to actually complete the project.

in this workshop you will develop skills in using digital technologies, like 3D modelling in combination with laser and paper cutter, to design in 3D and to be able to produce with digital tools a scaled model and 1:1 prototypes .
